July. The height of summer, and a glorious time in these parts. We hope it’s lovely where you are, and that you can make time to relax with a tall glass of something cool—and a good book.
Leslie Budewitz is delighted to announce the publication of BUTTER OFF DEAD on July 7 (Berkley Prime Crime/Penguin Random House). The third installment in the Food Lovers’ Village Mysteries takes us to the deep mid-winter, and the first annual Food Lovers’ Film Festival.
On Saturday, July 11, from 1-3, Leslie will sign books and talk with readers at Montana Book & Toy Company in Helena.
Leslie and Christine Carbo will be interviewing each other at Fact & Fiction Books in Missoula on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m. Join these Montana mystery writers for a chat on the writing life, their books, and a few surprises
Christine Carbo is excited to be heading to New York City for Thriller Fest 2015. When she returns, she’ll be heading to Missoula to Fact & Fiction on July 14th to meet Leslie Budewitz (see above paragraph) and to Bozeman to the Barnes and Noble for an event/signing at 7 pm on July 15th. If you’re in either area, please stop in.
And for those of you in the Seattle area, she’ll be at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop on July 18th at noon to sign books and chat.
Christine is also thrilled to have THE WILD INSIDE (Atria Books/Simon and Schuster) chosen as an alternate feature selection by the editors at Mystery Guild for the month of July, to have it included in the Chicago Tribune’s roundup of new paperbacks (July 5th) and for it to make Backpacker Magazine’s list of “Modern Novels Set in National Parks!”
Stop by one of these very cool bookstores in our Northwest communities and visit Christine and Leslie!
June! Summer dawns in the mountain valleys we call home — well, sometimes it slinks in on wet, muddy feet, but we never mind a little rain in these parts. Makes us all the happier when the sun shines.

Tis May in Montana and lovely, lively things are bursting forth all around us — including in our writing rooms and those secret places in our hearts and brains where stories live. Here’s a bit of what’s going on:
LESLIE BUDEWITZ is attending the Malice Domestic Mystery Convention—home of the Agatha Awards—this weekend. She’ll be helping celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Sisters in Crime Guppies chapter for new and unpublished writers, and awarding the first annual Dorothy Cannell Guppy Scholarship, established by agent Meg Ruley in honor of her fabulous mystery author client, Dorothy Cannell, to allow a Guppy to attend Malice Domestic. (Leslie is vice president of SinC.) She’ll also participate in a panel discussion of small town crime—of which she knows a thing or two!
On May 20, Leslie will be speaking at the West Shore Community Library in Lakeside, Montana, at 6 pm. Join in the spring book fun!
CHRISTINE CARBO has been busy getting ready to launch her debut novel of suspense, THE WILD INSIDE, on June 16th.
She is excited to learn that it has been selected as a Mystery Guild Featured Alternate Selection for the month of July, and that PUBLISHERS WEEKLY has called the novel an “evocative debut,” that “paints a moving picture of complex, flawed people fighting to make their way in a wilderness where little is black or white, except the smoky chiaroscuro of the sweeping Montana sky.”
Christine will be visiting several Montana cities/towns after the book hits the shelves, and will be posting events on her website, christinecarbo.com when her schedule gets nailed down. THE WILD INSIDE is available for pre-order in most of your favorite stores and on most of your favorite sites (Please see pre-order tabs). Please feel free to join in the book-launching fun!
